Pewter Tavern Pitcher, ca. 1830
Large pewter tavern pitcher made for the White Horse Tavern in London, England ca. 1831. The inscription on the bottom says, "John Cock's White Horse Carnaby Mkt." John Cocks was the proprietor of the White Horse (which still exists in London today) beginning in 1831. The pitcher is engraved on the front with bright cut initials "JC." This is a monumental pewter pitcher that was probably used to serve ale in the tavern.
